Constantine draws primary opponent

With candidate filing for the August primary election over as of last Friday, West Seattle King County Councilmember Dow Constantine has a Democrat primary challenger and a Republican to face in November.

The Democrat is Michael Goodspaceguy Nelson of Boulevard Park. The Republican is John Potter of Southern Heights.

Five people are seeking to replace Irene Stewart, West Seattle's representative or "director" on the Seattle School Board. Stewart is not seeking a second term. The candidates are Zeinab M. Ahmed, Edwin B. Fruit, Danaher M. Dempsey Jr., Steve Sundquist and Maria G. Rameriz.

School Director Sally Soriano has drawn one opponent, Peter Maier.

In the commissioner Position 2 race for the North Highline Fire District, three candidates are seeking the position of Commissioner Wayne G. Alishokis. They are Mark L. Ufkes, Heidi R. Johnson and Timothy J. Healy.

In Seattle City Council races, West Seattle's incumbent Tom Rasmussen get a pass with no one filing against him.

In Council Position 1, three persons, Joe Szwaja, Lauren V. Briel and Robert Sondheim, are seeking Councilmember Jean Godden's seat.

For Council Position 3, five people are vying for the position being vacated by Peter Steinbrueck. They are Scott Feldman, John E. Manning, Al Runte, Bruce Harrell and Venus Valazquez.

Councilmember David Della will face Tim Burgess in Position 7 and Councilmember Sally J. Clark will face three candidates, Robert J. (Bob) Brown III, Judy Fenton and Stan Lippmann.

In Port of Seattle races, five candidates are seeking Port Commissioner Bob Edwards' seat. They are The-Anh Nguyen, Jack Block Jr., Thom McCann, Gael Tarleton and Wen Wu Lee. Three are running against Port Commissioner Alec Fisken. They are Catherine J. Perkins, Stephen Symms and Bill Bryant.
