Burien walk to aid women's shelter

"Walk Out on Homelessness" will be staged Saturday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. during Burien Ladies' Day Out Breast Cancer fundraiser.

The fundraising walk, with support from over 40 local businesses, supports Hospitality House in Burien.

The downtown event will begin at Southwest 152nd Street and Sixth Avenue Southwest.

Sponsors hope to raise more than $10,000 for the shelter.

Funds will be used to provide counseling and personal assistance to women breaking out of the homelessness cycle.

Ending homelessness is a major commitment this year for both King County and the United Way, which is sponsoring a $25 million campaign to end this chronic condition countywide.

Hospitality House, the only shelter for homeless women in south King County, is an ecumenical project of 12 south county churches and is located at Lake Burien Presbyterian Church.

Stephanie Knight is executive director at the shelter at 15003 14th Ave. S.W.

Dogs on leash are welcome to join their owners in the walk.
