Family sues over arson fire

Jamie Cisneros and Martha Velazquez are suing the owners of the Tara Apartments after their eight-year-old son, Edgar Cisneros Velazquez and Cisneros' father, Ramon Cisneros Sanchez were killed in an arson fire at the building on June 29.

In King County Superior Court, they claim the building owners, Eric and Ruth Johnson, did not provide adequate fire escape routes and did not keep up safety equipment.

Lindy Kunimoto also died in the fire.

Trial of Whitehead's stepson underway

The trial of Jon Ogden, 20, got underway last week for the murder of his stepfather, Ronald Whitehead.

Ogden is charged with first-degree murder. Ogden's mother, Velma-Ogden-Whitehead, 50, was recently sentenced to 22 years in prison for plotting with Ogden and his friend Wilson Sayachack to murder Whitehead.

Allegedly, Sayachack hid in the back of Whitehead's car as he drove to work while Ogden was in the front passenger seat.

Whitehead's body was dumped out of the car on the SeaTac/Burien border at South 188th Street and Eighth Avenue South after he had been shot, according to police.

Ogden's fingerprints were on the murder weapon that has been recovered after being missing for three years, police said.

Ogden's attorney said in his opening statement that Ogden might have known about the murder plot but did not help kill Whitehead.

Mistrials have been called in Sayachack's two trials.
