Pac West wins state

While the Pac West Seniors and the West Seattle 10-11’s battled at state, other area teams found state action at other sites.

The District 7 Big League Baseball team comprised of players from Southwest Little League, Pac West, South Highline American and West Seattle competed in the Western Region Big League Baseball tournament after previously winning the state championship.

Nevada state champion District 2 Las Vegas dropped the Washington District 7, 7-2, on July 17, at the Kitsap City Ball Park in Bremerton. Oregon state champion District 7 Salem then ousted the Washington state champions, 6-4, on July 19.

In the Washington state tournament held at Alex Belisle Park in Vancouver, District 7 defeated Battle Ground before losing a 9-3 decision to Richmond. District 7 billed as West Seattle, then dropped Richmond in two consecutive games to claim the title of the four-team field.

District 7 representative West Seattle opened up state Little League Majors action at Freedom Field in Mill Creek Sports Park by absorbing a 13-2 loss to Bainbridge Island before Walla Walla Valley sent District 7 home, 7-6, on July 21.

West Seattle’s 11-12 age All Star team includes Derek Billey, Andrew Crunican, Jacob Eddy, Jack Irwin, Marley Lucas, Alex Mitchell, Nate Sobotta, Owen Vickrey, Matt Weller and Joey Werlech.

Bob Lakey manages the team with coaches Dan Billey and John McYnturff.

Further state tournament play featured the West Seattle 9-10 age All Stars at Fuller American Field in Vancouver. West Seattle began by edging out Woodinville, 5-4, on July 19. District 10 Kent dropped West Seattle into the consolation bracket with a 27-0 pounding the next day. Asotin County eked out the West Siders, 6-5, on July 22, to end a fine District 7 season.

The West Seattle player roster includes Zach Gibson, Austin Hall, Jeffrey Kasahara, Brian McMonigle, Riley O’Neil, Jack Page, Alexander Parker, Daniel Salle, Thomas Sobotta, Brandon Tyler, Kyle Van Vleet and Michael Werlech.

Manager Eric Kasahara leads the team. Kevin Tyler is the assistant coach. Michael Wydick is the District 7 administrator.
