Youth Health Clinic in new location

The staff of The Youth Health Center are in their new quarters at Highline Hospital.

The clinic first opened its door Jan. 5, 1998 in Burien. They have relocated to the Highline Medical Center campus at 16110 8th Ave. S.W. on the west side of the hospital.

The Youth Health Center is a school linked facility that works closely with King County Public Health Department and the Ruth Dykeman Youth and Family Services to promote healty life choices by providing comprehensive and confidential medical care for area teens ages 13 to 19.

The clinic provides primary care, adolescent medicine, sports medicine, acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, reproductive medicine, including mental health care, social support and education.

They accept private insurance. Some services are free. "No one is turned away for lack of resources," according to Bonnie Arroyo, manager.

"We are about safe, compassionate, accessible health care. There are many programs in Washington where most people quality, but don't have the resources to access it. The staff works to assist teens and their families with the application process for health coverage." she said.

Teen patients are treated for a wide range of ailments, including flu and colds, stomach pains, skin problems, infections, menstrual problems, STD prevention and testing, pregnancy testing, sore throats, warts, physical exams, sports exams, gynecological testing and PAP smears, contraceptive counseling, injuries, health education and allergies.

Counseling is also available for depression, stress, relationships with friends, teachers and family members, family problems, such as difficulty getting along with parents, drug/alcohol abuse, sexual/physical abuse, feelings of suicide, issues connected with sexuality, self-esteem and school problems.
