Normandy Park Cove luau to raise school funds

The Highline Schools Foundation for Excellence, a local non-profit that raises money for all of the Highline Public Schools, will hold its second annual community "Rock 'n' Roll Dance and Luau" on Saturday, Sept. 22.

The dance will take place on from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Normandy Park Cove, 1500 S.W. Shorebrook Dr.

At this year's dance, the Foundation will launch a musical instrument drive. All guests are invited to bring a new or used musical instrument. Instrument donations are tax-deductible and can be dropped off at Windermere in Burien on an ongoing basis after the dance.

Instruments will be placed in a central pool that the school district loans to students, helping all interested students participate in the school's music programs.

The dance will also feature a small auction with travel-themed items including a trip to Hawaii, a cruise to Mexico and several local getaways.

The Red Herring band will perform and the event will include a no-host bar and complimentary appetizers donated by local restaurants.

Tickets are $35 at the door or $30 in advance. Advance tickets can be purchased by phone at 206-248-5196 or in person at Photography by Steven, Windermere in Burien or Marine View Florist.

The Highline Schools Foundation for Excellence was established in 2001. With a mission "To develop community resources to help students succeed," the Foundation is the only 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization supporting all Highline public schools. The Foundation supports academic achievement, classroom grants, scholarships, and the arts.
