Upkeep of schools is decried

Wednesday, May 07, 2008

Wednesday, March 19: "Which schools next for bond?"

It would appear by this article that all of the Highline schools deteriorated overnight, and that normal maintenance has been carried out over the years.

Is it not true that the Highline School District receives maintenance money every budget? I know that the Highline School District has a large number of personnel to take care of maintenance problems; could it be that the school district is lax in hiring experienced personnel?

The article also mentions that the Maintenance Operations/Transportation building is in Tier 2 -Very Poor Condition. This means that the maintenance personnel cannot maintain their own building. Who is responsible for hiring these people?

Maybe it is time to replace this person with someone who has knowledge and experience in the maintenance fields and with the ability to run a crew.

Maintenance of any kind is a never-ending job, and must be put in capable hands, or, you end up with problems like the Highline School District has been cultivating for a long time.

Where has the maintenance money gone?

The article also mentions, "What's the appetite for the level of debt we would be incurring?"

If the Highline School District had been maintaining their (our, the taxpayers') property properly, we would be more inclined to support new buildings, etc.

School board members are going to have to start spending taxpayers' money as if it was coming out of their, the school board's pockets, and not a bottomless money pit.

" Mr Krefting hit it right on the head.
Once the buildings are built thats the last preventive maint done!! Higher ups only worried about their great salaries and getting home at 5 PM. Maybe if they spent more time at the schools instead of in the infamous "meetings" ie:Escape from reality!! No more money!! Take it off the top first!! "
