Back to school backpacks featured at SeaTac fair

Saturday, August 16, 2008

A coalition of community organizations and the Family Resource Center are sponsoring a back to school resource fair for SeaTac families on Aug. 22.

The event is supported by businesses, community members, and service groups.

The goal is to provide 500 backpacks filled with supplies to SeaTac students. World Vision is contributing backpacks.

During the fair, parents will learn about after-school activities, affordable childcare, and parent support and assistance programs.

HealthPoint-SeaTac will provide walk-in sports exams and well-child checks. To get the students off to a good start, free products and services will be available such as haircuts, personal care products, backpacks and school supplies. Families will also find activities, refreshments, door prizes, and interpreters.

The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located on the grounds of the Angle Lake Neighborhood Church and the Family Resource Center, 4040 S. 188th St., across from Chinook Middle School.

The resource center is a program of Lutheran Community Services NW. Their stated mission is to work in partnership with individuals, families, and communities for health, justice and hope. The center provides information, education, and support activities designed to enhance family stability, community connections, and parent competence and confidence.

The center is part of the Village at Angle Lake Community Services Building project, which was developed to address South King County's human services needs and help create an increased sense of community within the city of SeaTac.

In one location, South King County residents can access family resources, healthcare, childcare, senior housing, homecare services, and immigrant and refugee services.

Members of the Community Organizing Coalition are the resource Center, Angle Lake Neighborhood Church, New Life Center, City of SeaTac, HealthPoint-SeaTac, Hairmasters, Highline School District, Highline YMCA, King County Library-Valley View and Community Schools in Collaboration.

" Hello!

Thanks for the publicity for Back To School Resource Fair. But you got the name of one of the churches wrong. The church that you named as "New Life Center" is actually "Neighborhood Life Center", which is NOT to be confused with the similarly named, "Angle Lake Neighborhood Church". I attend Neighborhood Life Center and know that we are involved. Thanks for reading this. Please don't publish my name!

Thanks again,
Marshall Dunston "
