Seal Sitters Final Training (before the season) Aug. 12

If you'd like to help protect marine mammals you need training. Seal Sitters final training before seal pupping season gets really hot and heavy and there are too many time constraints on volunteers will be held at the Alki Bathhouse on Monday evening, August 12th from 6:30 - 8:30.

This is a pretty large venue so there is still space for some folks who'd like to help protect marine mammals. Here is the link with info and RSVP link:

White Center Library Public Meeting July 18

A public meeting will be held at Mt. View School in White Center July 18 to determine building orientation for the new King County Library to be built near the school at 107th and 14th SW. The lot is currently vacant.

Idea boards of how the library should be placed on the lot will be there to record public input.

Seal Sitters Alki Beach Cleanup Aug. 3

Seal Sitters, along with co-sponsors Alki Community Council and Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation, will hold a cleanup of West Seattle's Alki Beach on Saturday, August 3 from 9am-noon.

We will assemble at Alki's Statue of Liberty plaza (61st Ave SW and Alki Ave SW). Please RSVP via email for this event so we have enough bags and equipment on hand.

Pedals for People Bike Repair for Rural Africa

The Sustainable West Seattle July Community Forum is called ”Pedals for People,” an learning exercise with a positive outcome aimed at helping others. Join us and learn bike repair skills as we repair dozens of bikes for donation to rural Africa. Bring a bike for repair/donation or just come and help fix bikes. Bikes can be brought to Alki Bike and Board, 2606 California Ave. S.W., prior to the event. Bikes go through to rural Togo.

Urban Forest Restoration: Longfellow Creek
Join KCD and the Green Seattle Partnership to help restore habitat on Longfellow creek in West Seattle. Longfellow creek is one of only four salmon streams in Seattle. Come join our ongoing efforts to replace invasive ivy and blackberry with native trees and shrubs. Event will occur at the SW Brandon St and 29th Ave SW entrance of the Longfellow Legacy Trail in West Seattle from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
