It's nice that the Burien city council wants to know what we, the future citizens of Burien, want but sadly only about 39% of us registered to vote did so. Apparently the majority in this area don't really care. It still stuns me that for something so incredibly important, less than half of those registered to vote even bothered.
Burien became a city while I was living elsewhere in the Puget Sound region, but I was glad when it finally did so and was happy to vote Yes to annexation. I remember when I lived in BP before that there was talk about incorporating all of the Highline area, how it would be one of the largest cities, in area, in Washington. I wish that had come to fruition, but Burien has always been an entity unto itself, as has little Boulevard Park, and I'm glad the majority of BP will now be joining with Burien. Like the city manager said, it'll be like welcoming back part of the neighborhood and that's how I feel too.
I'm personally pleased the council is already anticipating what we'll want, in this and the potential of Puget Sound park at S. 128th and 1st S. (and other issues as well).
